"PRINCE OF WALES"
A bike trip to England and Wales July 2002
- Now also including Hanstholm and London

Day 19-onsdag den 31. juli 2002
Ved Give - Ellidshøj  124 km - Total: 2060 km

The sun has been up for a long time. It's 6.08 p.m. and there is a light wind. The last camp on this expedition has been taken down. I suppose I have not stored my gear as careful as I have done it the other days. Things that have been very important to me will now very soon loose their value. Funny to think of.
Ending a trip is always special. The events have once again been examined and valued. This trip was not well prepared at all, but nevertheless I have had exactly the wonderful experinces I had hoped to get.
I have seen wonderful landscapes, and I have met a large number of nice and friendly people. And I have ridden the kilometres I had planned to ride.

Now I am looking forward to coming home. I plan on paying a visit to Winther Cykler in Them. In a cooperation with Cykelmotion Danmark they have seen to that I have a super bicycle. I think it's 20-30 kilometres from here, but I may be there too early.
Everything should be ready for a nice Danish summer day, where I can do what I love more than anything else: Pedal peacefully through the landscape and simply enjoy life.

What a trip. It’s one of the most scenic routes I have seen in Denmark. I passed Rørbæk Sø and Nedergård Skov south of Nørre Snede, and as far as I remember it was  my first visit to that part of Denmark. But definitely not the last. After Nørre Snede I headed for Bryrup, and that area is extremely hilly. A few kilometres before I came to Them I was overtaken by Henrik from Winther Cykler, and we had a little chat before he invited me to have a cup of coffee with him at the factory.
What a coincidence it was that I met him there.

After the coffee break in Them I rode on towards Silkeborg and from there I rode north to Viborg. And now I was on roads I had pedalled on hundreds of times before.

How strange to back again.
Sønderup, Suldrup og Støvring.
In Støvring I made my usual stunt. I called my welcome committee. It consists basically of SWMBO (she who must be obeyed), my normally faithful wife of first marriage.
- Where are you, she asked.
- In Støvring, I replied.
- But then you are almost home, she said.
Inasmuch as there are 4 kilometres between Støvring and Ellidshøj, I could only admit she was right.
I finished my expedition in the southern end of the village.
Maybe I was not appointed to be Prince of Wales, but I can live with that.
I have been quite satisfied with my expedition, and I am sure I have not visited England and Wales for the very last time in my life.
