"In spite of ourselves we'll end up sitting on a rainbow"
Dear me, it was a cold night. When I measured the temperature at 6 o'clock a.m. it was only 7 degr. C. Apart from the fact, that my sleeping bag is very bad in these low temperatures, it's also too small. (or am I too big?)
It might be a good idea to aim at a better product on coming expeditions. But although it was cold as in a freezer, I had sunshine when I left. At night I had, for the second night in a row, party music from a place not too far away from my camp.
It was like riding on a normal Danish winter morning when I rode away equipped with gloves and shoe covers. And the first 5 km were down hill. That made me freeze even more

| Most baker shops had decided to close because it was Sunday, so I did not find an open cafe until I had ridden 40 km. Now I am busy drinking coffee and eating 4 different kind of rolls. The lady in the shop had no time to make me "Belegtes Brot', which you may know is my favourite breakfast. |
The clear weather I had had from the early morning disappeared quickly. About 7.30 a.m. the clouds started to gather, and I felt a few rain drops. When I entered the cafe, it rained very much. Thus I can prepare myself for another tough day. Unfortunately there are no sign of better weather in the next week. A commentator on a Bavarian radio station told me last night that he though we had "Sau Wetter".
"Der Sommer tröpfelt dahin."
For a while everything looked different. When
I looked back I saw a dark blue sky and in front of my the sky was clear
blue. But it changed so quickly.
It's now 10.56, and its just pouring down. I am in a bus shed in Herrieden.
It's not the most funny day I have ever had.
14.40. It's Sunday and on that day people normally have something good to eat. And as all shops were closed I went into a "Gasthaus". They had a party coming up, but they would serve me a meal if I would sit in a small room next to the kitchen. I have ordered Schnitzel at DM 11,- and a glass of water. I expect to see a large serving with a lot of potatoes. So far I have ridden 130 km. The weather has been fair for some hours, but …
All day long I have ridden in a rather hilly area. When I compare this part of the world with the Austria I have met, this is much better for bicycle riding. With maps like I have, it's always possible to find roads with very little traffic.
The Schnitzel was so big that it almost covered
my plate completely. To go with it I had salad and French fried.
A wonderful meal.
On and on Irode. This day must have been special because all the time I met people in party clothes on their way to something. In Iphafen I even ended up in a big Festival, and I had great difficulties finding my way out of that mess.
Little by little I found that I had ridden enough kilometres, and when it once again started to rain, I was 17 km from Schweinfurt.
The rain had practiced all day and felt like
doing more wonders.
In other words: It kept raining.
I managed to put up my tent and crept into it in my bicycle clothers.
I stayed there for 1,5 hours, before I made use of a minor stagnation to
establish a sort of camp.
The rain contiunued all night with changing intensity, but I did not sleep
too bad and was never disturbed by any festival this very night.
