Day 13 - Thursday 28th June

Nysa - Vysoke Myto
166 km. Total 2049 km.

"In spite of ourselves we'll end up sitting on a rainbow"

The Tomaszewskis had suggested, that we slept until, 8 o'clock, so that was of course what we did, but it was very difficult for both Jaroslav and myself to keep quiet that long.

While I lay there waiting for signs of life in the room next door, I though a little about the day before. I forgot to mention that we also paid a short visit yesterday to Wietold's parents. They are a couple of very nice elderly people.

When I finally got up I heard Wietold being busy in the kitchen. I went out to him and we talked for a while. Very soon the table was laid for breakfast. And again with a vast number of delicacies.

We intended to leave around noon, but before that I had something I wanted to do in the square in Nysa, something almost ritual. 6 years ago I had thrown a coin into the well in the square because an old saying tells that you have to do so, if you want to return to Nysa. Now I wanted to do it again. And this time I would carry out the job even better, so I threw no fewer than 5 coins into the well. I must admit that some of the coins were Czech, but I am convinced it's the same.

We also went into the very beautiful cathedral in the centre of the town, before we drove back to the flat. But before we could ride on, we were going to have a very special meal. It was also more or less a ritual act. 6 years ago I became acquainted with a wonderful Polish dish called (Gwaampki) (no guarantee for the spelling). It is cabbage around meat, corn etc. It's absolutely delicious. Maria remembered that, and now we had it once again.

And then it was time to leave. It can be a difficult thing to say good bye, so therefore I decided to say: "I'll be seeing you".
It was a wonderful visit and I will be very disappointed if I have visited Nysa for the last time. The trip home lasted close to 9 hours, and the first part of it was very cold. Furthermore we succeeding in finding the wrong way out of Nysa, which meant that I could put extra 15 kilometres in the book that day. We arrived in Vysoke Myto 8.30 p.m.

Actually we had planned that I was going to take Ludmilla and Jaroslav to a restaurant that evening, but it was getting late, we were tired, and Ludmilla had already made supper ready. Therefore we decided to call it a day, and decided that we would go to the restaurant next day around noon.

FACT BOX

On the trip I used luggage carriers named "Eske". They are made of aluminium. The one at the back has 2 thin bars and can, at the maximum, carry 18 kilos.
The front one has only one bar and can carry about half that weight.
I have now travelled with these carriers on 3 long trips, and they are outstanding. They may be worn a little thin here and there, but they are not finished yet.

On my previous trips I have loaded them considerably, whereas my trailer this time took over most of the responsibility

However, the weak point is the fitting, the place where you attach the carrier to the frame. It can vary a bit because bike frames are very different I have experienced breakdowns in the fittings, and I have not found fittings I can trust 100 %.
I bring along extra fittings and I check the system frequently.
The carrier itself looks fragile and weak, but it has proved to be extremely durable
