Little by little yours faithfully acknowledge that the distance across the USA is quite long. Especially if you plan on riding on a bike. And that is exactly what is going to take place.

You may be familiar with the fact that the trip starts in Norfolk, Virginia. From there it continues through the states Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada to Santa Barbara in California. From coast to coast.

The decision is final and only serious accidents or illness can prevent the adventure from taking place. The preparations have already started and in order to prepared in the best possible way I have allied myself with IK Frem in Suldrup, where an extremely well equipped training centre is to be found. The instructors from the centre are convinced that they can be a contributory factor in bringing an elderly gentlemen in good shape.

I met Jimmi Jacobsen, who was trusting in the project.
"We have here machines which consider all muscle groups", he explains.
"It is essential prior to a trip of this dimension that we concentrate our efforts on the muscle groups which are used most of the time. We will make an exercise program which basically concentrates on the circulation. Holger C. Andersen will no doubt be exposed to extreme strain on the muscles in the upper parts of the arms and the neck, and that is exactly where we will concentrate our efforts"

Of course the leg muscles will get to work as well, but that cannot surprise anybody. However, it may be a bit astonishing to some people, that the muscles in the arms are exposed to a lot of strain.

Of course numerous laborious training rides on the bike are crucial but an intensive effort in the gym will undoubtedly become a valuable supplement in the preparations.

And then it's time to trigger off ...
